Day one of the much anticipated, much planned for, much needed family vacation. Our first family vacation and Mariah’s first time outside the Wasatch front. We brought the adoption paperwork just in case.
By the time we got to the baggage carousel Mariah was bouncing off the walls. Not the ‘I am so excited to be having this fun experience’ bouncing off the walls but the ‘I am over whelmed and I don’t know how to cope so I am going to run around’ bouncing off the walls. She spent the time it took to get the rental car buckled into her car seat having a good cry. It was safe and secure and a part of her normal life.
It’s not that she was not enjoying herself; she loved the plane. She begged to go back to the bathroom the entire flight. She loved the airport; she was so cute dragging her little backpack through the airport like the big people and ridding the escalators. It was just too much for her. It was too many big feelings.
So once we got to the hotel we had a family rest time and let her get used to the space, relax, and reassure herself that mama and papa are still in charge and that she is still our baby.
Tomorrow – Disneyland.
